Understanding Galveston County Releases
A Galveston County release means the named custodian ended that custody episode. It does not always mean the person walked into the community. The Galveston County Jail can release someone on bond, after time served, on a court order, or into another agency's custody. Hospital Galveston and the Carole S. Young Medical Facility are TDCJ sites, where departure may be an internal state-prison transfer. Municipal jails can release directly or transfer a person into GCSO custody.
The official record should identify the releasing facility, time, type, and destination. A live roster is different. GCSO's P2C inquiry is framed around current inmates, so a former entry may no longer appear. The durable evidence then shifts to the jail register, booking-out or transfer record, court docket, and any receiving system. “Not shown in P2C when checked” is accurate. “Released to the street” requires the recorded event.
- Release
- The end of custody by the named agency.
- Transfer
- A move to another jail, prison, hospital, or federal custodian.
- Time served
- Release after the credited jail term has been met.
- Discharge
- The end of a sentence or supervision term.
Galveston County Release Types
The correct follow-up source depends on the recorded exit. Bond resolves custody on the covered matter but leaves the case pending. A dismissal answers the case result, though physical release may wait for jail processing and other holds. Probation, called community supervision in Texas law, can follow a judgment without a state-prison release. Parole and mandatory supervision follow TDCJ custody.
| Event | Meaning | Next source |
|---|---|---|
| Cash, surety, or personal bond | Pretrial release on the covered case | GCSO report and court docket |
| Time served | Custody term credited as complete | Judgment and booking-out record |
| Parole or mandatory supervision | State-prison release under supervision | TDCJ and BPP |
| Probation | Court-ordered community supervision | Judgment and local supervision office |
| Transfer | Custody continues elsewhere | Named receiving agency |
A warrant or detainer can block community release after one charge is resolved. Never infer that one booking exit clears every other matter.
Galveston County Release Record Fields
A written GCSO request should identify the booking and ask for existing fields that resolve status. The response may be a booking/release report, register entry, booking-out form, or release or transfer order. Access and redactions depend on the record and law.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Name and booking number | Links one person to one custody episode. |
| Booking date and agency | Shows when and through whom custody began. |
| Charges at booking | Provides context, not the final case result. |
| Actual release date and time | Records the physical jail exit. |
| Release type or reason | Distinguishes bond, time served, order, or transfer. |
| Destination | Names later custody when public and maintained. |
Property paperwork can corroborate that belongings were returned, but it does not prove community release. A mugshot likewise proves booking, not current status.
Request Galveston County Release Records
The GCSO records page lists email, mail, and hand-delivery routes. Seek a record already kept, not answers to questions. Narrow terms reduce cost and unrelated personal data.
- Give the full name, booking number, and booking date when known.
- Ask for the booking/release report, exit time, type, destination, and release or transfer order.
- Email GCSOrecords@co.galveston.tx.us or mail or deliver the request to 601 54th Street, Galveston, TX 77551.
- Ask for electronic production and a cost estimate.
- Compare the result with the court and receiving agency.

Galveston Release Record Retention
Texas Government Code Chapter 552 governs requests, exceptions, charges, and procedure. Online visibility is different from retention. Local Schedule PS makes the county jail register permanent and includes the reason for confinement plus release or transfer date in its minimum content.
Booking-out forms and release or transfer orders have a minimum retention of release or transfer plus two years. These minimums do not promise web access or unrestricted disclosure. Expunction under Chapter 55A is fact-specific, while nondisclosure is a different remedy. A portal no-result proves neither.
When Galveston Jail Releases Happen
GCSO publishes a local sequence but no fixed release hour. A person enters the queue only when required payment and paperwork are complete and received. Officers then recheck paperwork and identity. A court order or posted bond can predate the physical exit. Family may use the two free two-minute calls GCSO says are available after booking to coordinate, but those calls do not prove that release is complete.
The GCSO Corrections narrative supports source-bound wording: the court entered an order, the jail recorded an exit, or a receiving agency logged intake. Those may be three different times.
Galveston Bond Release Differences
The sheriff says most people have a bond and/or fine that must be paid to help secure release. It describes self-payment or a bondsman and states GCSO cannot recommend one. The county's Personal Bond Office is a separate judge-authorized path. It publishes a fee of three percent of the amount ordered.
Cash, surety, and personal bonds address pretrial custody on covered matters. None means dismissal. The court record shows the bond order, while GCSO records when processing ended and whether another hold controlled.
Find Galveston County Released Inmates
No single system proves every stage. Start with present county display, then use the case and release records to identify the exit. Follow only the receiving system named by that evidence.
- Search GCSO P2C by exact and variant names and record the time.
- Search Odyssey for bond, judgment, dismissal, commitment, or transfer entries.
- Call 409-766-2315 for a narrow current-status check and request the written release record.
- If the record says TDCJ, search the verified state number or name.
- If it says federal or ICE transfer, use the correct federal channel.
- Use Texas IVSS-Counties for alerts, then preserve the formal record.
TDCJ Galveston Release Search
The TDCJ Online Inmate Search covers state custody and certain supervision records, not every Galveston County arrest. A TDCJ or SID number gives the safest match. With a name, verify age or birth facts, conviction county, offense, and state number.
| Route | Best use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| TDCJ or SID number | Stable state match | Needs the right number |
| Name | Starting search | Same-name collisions |
| TDCJ email | History and projected date | Needs identifying details |
Projected Release Date is a planning calculation, not proof of an exit. Read location, status, projected or scheduled date, and parole information together.
The official TDCJ form appears below.

Use the statewide form only when evidence points to TDCJ custody.
Galveston Recent Release List Limits
No verified GCSO 24-hour or 72-hour release feed, filter, archive, or mobile app was found. P2C exposes current-inmate fields but no release-time column or retention promise. Request the existing log for exact Central Time endpoints. Do not substitute an unofficial gallery or call P2C a historical release list.
Galveston Post-Release Supervision
BPP decides parole and discretionary mandatory supervision. TDCJ's Parole Division supervises releasees. County probation is court-ordered community supervision and does not prove prison release. Verify parole with the state number; verify probation with the judgment and local supervision office.
The Galveston District Parole Office is at 5631 Attwater Avenue in Dickinson, not on the island. The assigned officer and release certificate control. See the Galveston parole and probation record path.
Galveston Alerts and Federal Releases
Begin county notifications at the Texas OAG IVSS page. Select the matching Galveston record when available and register for offered events. Alerts can lag and reflect only the contributing system.
The BOP locator can retain a release date for many former federal prisoners. A BOP result does not rule out local, state, immigration, or supervision status. ICE and USMS require their own paths.
ICE reports that its Online Detainee Locator may include people who remain detained and people released from ICE custody within the prior 60 days. That federal display is not a Galveston County recent-release list. When a GCSO record identifies an immigration detainer or handoff, preserve the county exit time and check the ICE event separately. ICE explains that a detainer asks a local agency to maintain custody for up to 48 hours beyond the time the person would otherwise be released so immigration officers can assume custody. The county event is therefore a transfer when ICE takes custody, even though the person has left the county jail.
A federal court matter needs a different bridge. USMS manages many pretrial prisoners and moves people among contract jails, courts, and BOP facilities, but it does not offer a broad public name locator equal to the BOP search. A GCSO release report marked “USMS” or “federal” should be matched to the federal court docket and the responsible agency. BOP's former-prisoner result becomes useful only when the person entered BOP records. Keep the county transfer date, federal placement information, and any later BOP release date as distinct events.
Galveston Release Search by System
Match the database to the custodian named in the record. City holding, county jail, state medical prison, and federal custody do not share one complete search.
| System | Current source | After exit |
|---|---|---|
| County jail | P2C and jail | GCSO release/transfer report |
| Municipal | City jail or police | City disposition or GCSO booking |
| TDCJ | TDCJ location/status | Release, supervision, or discharge record |
| BOP | BOP locator | Former-prisoner result when covered |
| ICE | ODLS | ICE/ERO confirmation |
Galveston Courts and Release Times
Release research crosses district-court felonies, county-court-at-law matters, municipal cases, and justice-court matters. The Odyssey portal may preserve events after P2C no longer shows the booking. Search by case number, verify the party, and inspect bond orders, disposition, judgment, sentence, and later orders.
District Clerk records generally cover felony district cases, while County Clerk records cover county-court-at-law matters. Municipal and justice courts hold their own case classes. A court event does not state the jail-door time or clear other holds. Pair the order with the GCSO release report.
The Odyssey vocabulary includes outcomes such as dismissed, disposed, probation or deferred disposition, jail-time credit, transferred, and warrant issued. These are legal case states. A disposed case can remain visible after county custody ends, but it does not say whether another booking, detainer, or transfer followed. Search the hearings screen only for scheduled court activity; do not treat a hearing time as a release appointment.
The Galveston Odyssey portal is shown below.

The docket provides case context while the jail record supplies the physical event.
Galveston Medical Custody Releases
Hospital Galveston at UTMB and the Carole S. Young Medical Facility in Dickinson are TDCJ medical-custody sites, not county jails. A patient leaving either may transfer within TDCJ. Community discharge, parole, or mandatory supervision must be confirmed through the statewide record and supervision system.
This distinction matters because the county jail is also in Galveston. A GCSO exit can be bond, time served, court order, or transfer into TDCJ. The facility label and receiving agency control the next search, not the street address alone.
Hospital Galveston appears physically within UTMB, while Young is near the Galveston District Parole Office in Dickinson. Those local landmarks can cause a false match. TDCJ location data and the unit directory should settle the facility, while the parole certificate settles the supervision office after a true state-prison release.
Galveston County Custody Facilities
Use the page matching the actual record: Galveston County Jail, Hospital Galveston, Carole S. Young Medical Facility, League City Jail, Texas City Police Jail, GPD temporary holding, municipal holding channels, juvenile detention, or federal and immigration systems. Juvenile detention is listed only to prevent mismatch; confidentiality bars an adult-style public name search.
League City and Texas City can release locally or transfer into GCSO. GPD policy says temporary adult custody ordinarily should not exceed six hours and can end in direct release or transport to jail, medical care, or another facility. A direct city release may never appear in P2C. Request the city disposition and determine whether county booking followed.
League City identifies a 65-person municipal jail at 555 W. Walker Street and a jail number of 281-332-2566. Texas City publishes booking and jail-supervisor contacts for its facility at 1004 9th Avenue North. Its official FAQ routes users to different inmate systems based on the holding agency. If either city transferred the person, the receiving jail's later event controls the final custody answer.
The federal and immigration pages serve only when a local record indicates that handoff. No BOP-operated prison was identified in Galveston County. A federal defendant can be held under contract or moved by USMS without a BOP designation, so the federal court docket may be the bridge. ICE detainers request temporary added local custody so ICE can assume custody. A GCSO exit on that hold is a transfer, not proof of community release.
Jerry J. Esmond Juvenile Justice Center is not an alternate adult search. Galveston County describes around-the-clock admission and release processing there, but juvenile confidentiality and authorized court procedures control access. Never place a juvenile name into the adult release workflow merely because the facility appears in the county map.
For every facility, preserve a short chain of proof: the originating booking or admission, the order or authority for exit, the facility's recorded release or transfer, and the next agency's intake or supervision record when one exists. That chain prevents a medical movement, municipal handoff, or federal detainer from being reported as an ordinary Galveston County community release.
Which date is the release date? For county-jail status, use the actual exit or transfer time recorded by GCSO. Keep the court's order time and any receiving-system time as separate fields. For a state prisoner, use TDCJ's final release event rather than treating a projected date as proof.
Always record when each official source was checked.
